Student Posters

Our courses are assessed in a variety of ways, and biology is no exception. Recently our talented Life Sciences students did poster presentations as part of their module assessement. A very high standard was seen throughout; here is a small selection of the great work they produced. Well done everyone!

Life Sciences at Sunderland FoC

One of the pathways we offer here at Sunderland FoundationCampus is Life Sciences. After passing the course they then have guaranteed progression onto a range of top quality degree programs at Sunderland University, including the very highly-rated MPharm course.
Here are some of Sunderland FoundationCampus' current life science students making good use of the laboratory facilities during their chemistry practicals.

Students that pass our Life Sciences foundation course may also choose to study other degree courses offered at Sunderland University, such as Drug Discovery and Development, or Sports Science.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Sunderland's Stadium of Light isn't just home to a Premier League football team, it also hosts music concerts by world-famous musicians.

To celebrate the fact that American rock-gods Red Hot Chili Peppers are playing at the Stadium of Light in June, Sunderland University's very own radio station, Spark FM, are hosting a competition to win a pair of tickets to the concert. Click here to see what happened when the brave people at Spark FM decided to make friends with some red hot chilli peppers of their own...

In the meantime, here's a taster of what can be expected on 24th June.

You can enter the competition here, but be quick!

Sunderland FoC Student profile

Meet Gong, a current student here at Sunderland FoundationCampus.

Which programme are you studying at Sunderland FoundationCampus, and which degree do you want to progress onto?
I am studying the Undergraduate Foundation Programme in Business. I will study for a business degree at university.

How are you finding your programme at FoundationCampus?
I am really enjoying studying.  I think the programme is really helping me; it is very interesting and I am learning lots of things – not just about business.

Has your English improved? Which areas in particular?
My English has definitely improved – I speak English every day with my friends and it is very important to improve.  The teachers have taught me a lot about how to write an essay and I have improved a lot.

Where do you live?
I am living in the Precinct (university accomodation) and I really enjoy it. My flatmates are very kind and friendly. There are a lot of students from different countries.

Have you met any university students yet?
Some of my flatmates study at the business school which is very useful for me; I can ask questions about the business school. There is also a lady who is a student rep living in our block and she is very kind and helps me a lot. Every week we play basketball with other Chinese students at the university.

If you had to summarise FoundationCampus in one sentence, what would it be?
It is very interesting and useful, and helps you to learn the basics before you go onto the business school.

Masters Foundation Research Conference

All MFP (Masters Foundation Programme) students are taught Research Methods here at Sunderland FoundationCampus. A conference was organised to give our students an opportunity to showcase the impressive work they'd done, giving a presentation on their chosen research topics. We were very pleased with the results, which clearly demonstrated that all their hard work had been worthwhile.

A range of different topics were presented, ranging from AIDS awareness in Nigeria and increasing labour costs in China, to the psychology of online shoppers and differences in recruitment methods. All attendees took part in a vote: many congratulations to Zhao Lezhang who won a prize for Best Presentation, and to Song Xiangpeng for winning the prize for Best Poster. Well done guys!
